2nd Sagittarius Full Moon/ Solstice
20th June 2016
A rare celestial event!
A chance to realign ourselves to our purpose in life
This is a powerful combination we can take advantage of to advance our cause and free ourselves of where we are stuck in life.
Issues that have been around since April may peak at this time. Sagittarius is an exuberant sign, it’s associated with the adventurer, the idealist, the philosopher. This full Moon helps us connect with the Sagittarius abundant optimism and feeling supported by life. It is the second stage of the unfolding Sagittarius story that started with the full Moon on May 21st this year.
These two full Moons are prodding us to seek our truth. Are we now heading in the right direction? Have we hit the reset button in the last month?
Full Moon is when the moon is opposite the sun. This is a time of culmination. A time to reap what we have sown. What did we initiate in the last few months? This may be coming to a completion or climax now.
Gemini/ Sagittarius are a tricky combo. They represent our ability to think and communicate, learn, teach, play, explore, grow. Gemini can talk itself into anything and Sag can justify everything! We need to sift through the facts (Gemini) to find meaning and direction (Sagittarius).
As mentioned in the first Sagittarius full Moon post “The question is, will this full Moon bring out the curious, truth seeker, adventurer in us, who is looking for greater freedom in life? Or the fanatical righteous crusader, who agitates with a loaded agenda? How important is it for us to be right?”
We need to inspect our beliefs again, are they facilitating or blocking our way?
Solstice derives from the latin word “solstitium’ literally meaning sun stops. It marks the 1st day of Summer or Winter. June 21st marks the beginning of Summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere. The solstices and the equinoxes signify the beginning of new seasons. These occur in the Cardinal Sign: Aries.Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Cardinal signs are associated to the four directions and are defined by a strong quality of initiating change.
On the Solstices the sun will reach the highest or lowest point in relationship to the equator, with summer solstice being the longest day of the year and winter solstice the shortest. These are important cycles that have for eons connected many cultures with the heavens. From ancient times people have used these cycles to mark the passage of time. There are rituals that connect with the start of the seasons, in many traditions it’s a time to celebrate with festivals, initiations and rituals.
The last full Moon/ solstice in June was 1967. There was a full Moon eclipse on the December solstice 2010.
Aspects to the full Moon
Venus snuggles up to the Sun in Gemini, keeping relationships in focus. Being opposite the Moon highlights exchanges with others. Be aware of how you communicate and the impact you make on people. This gives us a chance to see imbalances. Uranus is sextile (60 degrees) adding excitement and a dash of zing! Chiron is square (90 degrees) making sure we don’t ignore our sensitive vulnerable parts.
Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, making it the ruler of this full Moon. It is in Virgo, so it counsels us to keep our feet on the ground and not get carried away with wild ideas/ visions. We can take leaps of faith (Sagittarius’s strong suit) but they must be calculated and thoroughly planned!
Let’s quest for truth, wisdom and freedom
Let’s broaden our perspective
Let’s be inclusive of all peoples
The magic of the Cosmos is supportive.
Happy Full Moon!
